Lototoa is his middle name. From the day he was born it suit him perfectly.
The past 3 months have proved that his middle name {Lototoa} is a part of him. He has shown so much courage and bravery through all that he's been through. For 3 months he's worn bandages and a sock on his arm, his finger totally concealed, mostly unusable. Every morning I change his dressings and he willingly holds is hand out so I can wrap his finger.
His { courageous heart } in his short little life so far has helped me endure some of the hardest trials I've ever had to endure. To Tyus it's no big deal.
Before his surgery, I couldn't pray enough, I was the most nervous I had ever been in my life. To ease my nervousness I sat at my {sewing} machine for days and created what I felt was comfort to Tyus. { At the burn center, they don't stock gowns small enough for small children }. Surgery day came, and the spirit was in abundance there to comfort us. We waited a while and soon the doctors came to get Ty. With him in his special gown and wrapped up in his {mommy} made blanket, I handed him over to the nurses and they took him quickly away to the operating room. I {of course} immediately crumbled, however was quickly comforted by the spirit's manifest that all would go according to plan.
And it did. And he was so brave .
I've always known Tyus was a special spirit, even more so now as God has literally given Tyus a healing miracle. He is so aware of Tyus. Words cannot explain how thankful I am for this special little guy, I feel honored he calls me "Ma".
{Here are some snapshots of Tyus before his surgery on April 12th} :
*We are happy to report his skin graft is taken to his finger and he has almost fully healed !
Thank you again to all that have showed your support, love, and concern for our family & Tyus !
Your thoughts and prayers have been the rock we've needed for us to get through it all.

March 25th was Tyus's First Birthday.
A day at the Park
{McCormick Ranch, Scottsdale}
Filled with lots of fun, cake, trains, family and friends.
{Here are some simple snapshots of his special day}
Tyus wasn't shy at all about diving into his cake.
And of course, big sister jumped in to help eat the cake.
{My attempt at cake decorating, I think I'll stick to sewing}
{I love my family}

After 2 months of healing, the doctors
have examined the progress of Ty's finger and after long conversation
and prayer we have decided to go a head with surgery for Ty's finger.
The scar tissue that surrounds the top of his finger is limiting
mobility in the top joint. The tissue is pulling together so tight
{without any elasticity} which consequently effects bone growth and is
deforming his finger. This will get much worse as his finger grows
rapidly in the next few years.
We wanted to all together avoid surgery for him, and have been praying
his body will take care of everything on its own.
However, it seems
that if we don't correct this problem now, Tyus might loose all
functionality of his finger. Being so young, we feel if we can prevent
this now, we must.
It was difficult to accept Tyus's need for surgery but after a lot
prayer and thought, we don't feel defeated but grateful the problem can
be corrected by modern medicine.
We are so thankful for the inspired
leaders of the church, as we have found a lot of comfort in Dallin H.
Oaks recent talk about this exact subject in the priesthood session of
conference.
So our little guy goes for surgery at 6:30am on Monday morning.
They will perform a skin graft, by taking skin from his groin area and
transplant it to his finger.
Our family is fasting for him on
Sunday. I would only simply ask for your thoughts and prayers on his
behalf.
The risk he faces in surgery on Monday is minimal but the comfort that
comes from prayer is what we need the most.
We appreciate ALL of you so much ! We are so blessed to have family and
friends that are willing to pull together and offer sincere prayers for
our little guy.
Thank you, thank you, thank you !
Love to ALL!
